Sometimes mom needs a break from the everyday and to have a little time for herself. And what better place to get away than Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic, with it's "no worries" chill vibe and vibrant views of turquoise waters and white sand. While I missed my son, the resort offered a much-needed break and a chance to recharge.

Even though my son wasn't with me, I noticed all of the great features that would make Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana an amazing family destination. From the impressive kids club full of toys and activities to the abundance of shaded areas for kids to play, and the zero entry splash pad, it is a family-friendly getaway that I'd love to share with my son some day.

Here are my top 4 reasons for you to bring your family to Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana for an unforgettable vacation:

The Kids Club

When I think about a kids club, I'm never quite sure what to expect from place to place. After speaking with the staff and seeing the facilities on our fantastic tour with Carol, I felt so at ease knowing I could drop off my son and go have a little adult time while he was entertained and having fun.

The kids club is staffed by trained professionals who are great with children. They lead the kids in a variety of activities, including arts and crafts and games. There's even a small outdoor playground area with a slide and climbing structure. I love that it offers both indoor and outdoor play.

Just across the way there's also a teen club with a ping pong table, books, sports on the TV, and a snack bar! It's nice to have an indoor space for the big kids to hang out with kids their age if it gets too hot out or you'd like to go have a quiet meal with just the adults.

The Food

Speaking of meals, the food options were so great! There's an entire gourmet village with 5 restaurants featuring Italian cuisine, Asian cuisine, a steakhouse, traditional Dominican cuisine, and many a cheeseburger, of course. I enjoyed trying new island-inspired dishes at Rum Runners! The shrimp, octopus, and squid tacos especially spoke to my Texan taco-loving heart. The burgers were so flavorful with super fresh toppings. I loved every dish the entire weekend.

Have a kiddo who eats nothing but pancakes and chicken nuggets? Great news! They have a large variety of kid-friendly food options in The Boathouse. Fresh fruit, cereal, pancakes, eggs, or macaroni and cheese... they have it all!

The Size

Keeping every member of the family in mind, especially the kids, I really appreciated that Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana is on the smaller side so that walking to different activities was easy. It's less than a 5-minute walk to anywhere you'd like to go, even the beach! Plus, the beach and pools were never overcrowded during my stay, which made it feel like a private oasis.

I'm always concerned with protecting my skin from the sun, so I was pleased to find an abundance of shaded seating at the resort. There were plenty of umbrellas and covered seating areas available, which meant that I could spend as much time as I wanted outside without worrying about getting too crispy.

The Zero Entry Splash Pad

Another fun family-friendly feature of the resort is the zero entry splash pad. I love how safe it was while still being lots of fun. There were often little ones having a blast while their parents looked on. It's perfect for young children who are just learning to swim, as well as older children who want to cool off without getting fully immersed in the water. The splash pad has a variety of features including fountains, sprinklers, and water jets, which make it fun and interactive for kids of all ages.

The splash pad is located near the main pool area, which is also a great spot for families. The family pool, the Wave, is large enough to accommodate many guests, but never felt crowded during my stay, so it would be the perfect hang-out spot for the whole family. There are plenty of lounge chairs and seating areas surrounding the pool too, so it's easy to find a spot to relax and enjoy the sunshine.

If you're planning a family vacation to somewhere tropical, I highly recommend considering Margaritaville Island Reserve Cap Cana. With its beautiful beach, family-friendly amenities, and welcoming atmosphere (every member of the staff I passed had a warm greeting to offer), it's a great choice for travelers of all ages.
